Introduce Academic Services and Resources in Your Syllabus

Quality Review Showcase

The Quality and High Quality online course reviews explore components proven to be best practices in online course design. This post showcases High Quality item, “An introduction to the university’s academic services and resources available to support student success (e.g., Student Accessibility Services, Writing Center) is provided.”

There are numerous university services and resources available to students to support their academic success, and it can help if they are reminded of that within an individual course. Students can access many services and resources online, such as Ask-A-Librarian, the University Writing Center, and Knights Online to name a few.

What are Some Ways your Online Course can be Designed to meet this Standard?

  • There is a resource built into every online course menu called Success Resources, which directs students to online resources. If you don’t see it in the course menu, you can enable it in the Course Navigation tab.
  • The Syllabus and Interactive Syllabus templates within the Templater tool already contain this information. You may use the template or simply copy the text below.
    • A list of available academic support and learning services is available at UCF Student Services. Click on “Academic Support and Learning Services” on the right-hand side to filter.
  • Feel free to highlight the services that you think will particularly help with the course. For example, while a service like the Learning Skills Consultations can benefit broadly, many courses in English emphasize the value of the University Writing Center.
