Yet how do we face the challenge of ensuring that all of our students, including those with visual and hearing impairments, learning disabilities, and non-native English speakers, can access these materials? In this session, presenters will discuss a variety of strategies, resources, and services that will help us make online course materials accessible. Ideas and concerns of on-site and remote participants will be solicited. The goal of this session is constructive and practical dialogue with colleagues. Presenters Christine HanlonInstructor Nicholson School of Communication College of Sciences University of Central Florida Christine Hanlon has been teaching at UCF for the past 14 years and is currently the Vice President of the Florida Communication Association. Her research focuses on computer-mediated communication and gender issues in communication, particularly in regards to media representations and military recruitment. Ms. Hanlon has extensive experience teaching online students from a variety of backgrounds, including students with disabilities. Kathleen BastedoInstructional Designer Center for Distributed Learning University of Central Florida Kathleen Bastedo is an instructional designer at UCF and facilitates faculty with the design, development, and delivery of online courses. She has worked with people with disabilities in various settings for over 20 years and has a research specialization in assistive technology as it relates to the access of digital materials for people with disabilities.
