Turnitin Settings

In addition to the Assignment settings, Turnitin has its own set of settings for instructors to add to the tool. The LTI currently includes a few limitations in Turnitin settings:

Adjust Turnitin Settings

To allow late submissions, select the Allow late submissions Yes or No button. This option sets whether or not you allow submissions after the due date listed in the Turnitin settings at the top. If you select the Yes button, students can submit an assignment after the due date if they have not already made a submission. If you select the No button, students cannot submit the assignment after the due date.

Allowing Late Submissions

For this setting, the Allow late submissions goes by the due date in the Turnitin settings first and then the Due and Until dates listed in Webcourses. For example, in an assignment’s settings the Due date is set to March 26 at 11:59pm and the Until date is set to March 30 at 11:59pm. For a regular assignment, this would mean students could submit after the due date (March 26) and would be marked late, but could no longer submit after the assignment locks on March 30. In the Turnitin settings it will show the Due date as March 26.

Extend Assignment Due Date for a Single Student

If you need to extend an assignment for a student, you can still do so by giving the student an individual due date following these steps:

After you have assigned the individual due date and saved the changes, you will then want to make sure that you have selected the option to Allow late submissions. This will ensure that students can submit past the due date, but not after the lock/until date.

Multiple Turnitin Submissions

The only way to allow students to submit to a Turnitin assignment multiple times is if the second and third options above are selected.

Draft Assignments

If you are creating a draft assignment, you may not want to have Turnitin store the submission.

Note: These instructions are for the External Tool version of Turnitin. There is also a Plagiarism Checker option built into all assignments in Webcourses@UCF, and while it is simpler to enable to use, it does offer less functionality in comparison to the external tool.
