Faculty – How to Give Students Extra Time on a Quiz or Exam

With finals around the corner, Webcourses@UCF Support has received several calls about the best way to give students extra time on Quizzes when needed. To give students additional time on a timed quiz, please take the following steps:

  1. Log in to Webcourses@UCF and access the quiz. Click the Moderate This Quiz link.
  2. Locate the student. You can also filter students in your course by using the Search People field.
  3. Click the Edit icon (looks like a pencil, to the right of the students’ name).
    • Note: If you want to select multiple students, click the checkbox next to each of their names. If you want to select all students, click the top checkbox.
  4. Click the Change Extensions for Selected Students button.
  5. Type the number of extra minutes in the Extra Time on Every Attempt field (this field only appears on timed quizzes).
    • Note: If you are adding time for multiple students, the student extension box will apply the extra time for all selected students.
  6. Click Save

You can find more information in the “Once I publish a timed quiz, how can I give my students extra time?” Canvas Guide.
